1. What cookies and similar technologies are
A cookie is a small text file stored by your browser when you visit a site. Besides cookies themselves, we also use "local storage" and "session storage" — similar in-browser storage mechanisms, subject to the same consent rules under data protection law.
2. Strictly necessary cookies (no consent required)
We use a single strictly necessary cookie, "__session" — generated by Firebase Authentication, containing an encrypted token that keeps your login session active for 14 days, is httpOnly (inaccessible from JavaScript), and cannot be used to track you across other sites. Without it you can't log in or access your purchased stories. This cookie is exempt from the consent requirement under Article 5(3) of Directive 2002/58/EC (ePrivacy), as it's strictly necessary to provide a service you've explicitly requested (authentication); the processing basis is performance of a contract (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)).
3. Analytics technologies (require your consent)
With your consent, we load Google Analytics 4's gtag.js script, which sets Google's own cookie, "_ga" (valid for up to 2 years), to measure traffic and platform usage. Data is sent directly from your browser to Google — this allows your country to be calculated correctly from your real IP address, unlike a server-only relay. If you decline, the script is not loaded and no Google cookie is set on this domain.
4. Marketing technologies (require your consent)
With your consent, we send events (for example, completing a purchase) to the Meta Conversions API, directly from our own servers, including only your IP address and browser user-agent at the time of the event. We don't load the Meta Pixel in your browser and don't set marketing cookies (such as _fbp, _fbc) on our domain. If you decline, we don't send any events to Meta.
5. Third-party cookies during checkout
When you complete a purchase, you're redirected to checkout.stripe.com, a domain operated by Stripe, Inc. Stripe may set its own cookies on its domain for fraud prevention and payment processing — these are governed by Stripe's privacy policy, not ours.
6. How to manage your preferences
On your first visit, we explicitly ask for your consent for analytics and marketing, separately. You can change these preferences at any time using the "Cookie preferences" button permanently visible in the corner of the page, or by clearing this site's browsing data in your browser.

We may update this policy periodically to reflect technical or legal changes. We'll display the last-updated date at the top of this page.
