Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the meStory platform, available at getmestory.com and through the associated mobile apps (the "Service"), operated by the entity identified above. By creating an account, accessing, or using the Service in any way, you confirm that you have read, understood, and accept these Terms in full. If you do not agree with these Terms, you must not use the Service.

1. Definitions
"Service" means the meStory platform, including the website, mobile apps, story content, and any associated functionality. "User" or "you" means any person who accesses or uses the Service. "Story" means an interactive narrative available for purchase on the platform. "Account" means the user account created to access the Service's features.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account, the minimum age for consent to personal data processing under Romanian law and the GDPR. If you are under 18, you need the consent of a parent or legal guardian to make purchases. We reserve the right to request age verification and to suspend accounts where there is reasonable suspicion that this requirement has not been met.
3. Account creation and security
You're responsible for the accuracy of the information provided when creating your account and for keeping your password and login credentials confidential. You're responsible for all activity that occurs under your account, whether or not authorized by you. You must notify us immediately at our contact address if you suspect unauthorized use of your account. Creating multiple accounts to circumvent restrictions imposed by these Terms is not permitted.
4. Description of the Service and the nature of generated content
meStory offers interactive stories where your choices influence the direction of the narrative. Some of the content presented may be generated or assembled with the help of automated systems (including artificial intelligence), based on the choices you make while reading. We don't guarantee that any generated sequence will be free of errors, minor inconsistencies, or unusual phrasing; such occurrences don't constitute a defect in the Service that would justify a refund, except as provided in Section 9.
5. Purchases and pricing
Each story has an individual price, clearly displayed in EUR before you complete a purchase. Prices may change over time and may differ between stories, without affecting purchases already made. All prices include, where applicable, taxes due under the laws of your jurisdiction; in some cases, additional taxes may be added by the payment processor depending on your location.
6. Payments
Payments are processed exclusively through Stripe, Inc., a PCI-DSS certified third-party payment processor. We don't collect or directly store your card details — these are fully managed by Stripe under its own security policies. By making a payment, you confirm you have the legal right to use the chosen payment method.
7. License to use
When you purchase a story, we grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and read that story, for personal, non-commercial use only. This license doesn't grant you any ownership rights in the content. You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, publicly display, sell, sublicense, or commercially exploit story content, in whole or in part, in any form.
8. Gift codes
Stories may be purchased as a gift for another person, without the purchaser needing to create an account. The generated gift code is valid according to the term specified at the time of purchase and may be used only once. We're not responsible for gift codes lost, stolen, or shared with third parties by the purchaser or recipient.
9. Refunds
You can request a full refund within 14 calendar days of purchase, provided you haven't progressed past the first chapter of that story. Refund requests should be sent to the contact address below and are processed within a maximum of 14 business days after approval. This refund right applies in addition to, without affecting, the statutory right of withdrawal for consumers under applicable EU distance-contract law, to the extent the digital nature of the content allows it to be exercised.
10. Prohibited conduct
It is prohibited to: (a) use the Service for illegal or fraudulent purposes; (b) gain unauthorized access to systems, perform automated scraping, or bulk-extract content; (c) interfere with the normal operation of the Service, including through denial-of-service attacks; (d) resell, redistribute, or commercially exploit accounts or content; (e) use bots, automated scripts, or other unauthorized technical means to interact with the Service; (f) attempt to reverse-engineer the systems that generate story content.
11. Intellectual property
All intellectual property rights in the Service, including story content, source code, design, trademarks, logos, and the "meStory" name, are owned exclusively by the company or its licensors. Nothing in these Terms transfers any intellectual property right to the user, other than the limited license described in Section 7.
12. Availability of the Service
We make reasonable efforts to ensure the continuous availability of the Service, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted, error-free operation, or freedom from planned or unplanned downtime (maintenance, updates, third-party technical issues). We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of the Service, temporarily or permanently, with or without prior notice.
13. Suspension and termination of accounts
We may suspend or close your account, with immediate effect, in case of a breach of these Terms, fraudulent activity, or use that endangers the security of the Service or other users. You may close your account at any time by contacting us at the address below; closing your account doesn't entitle you to a refund for stories already read beyond the limit set out in Section 9.
14. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including, without limitation, warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement of third-party rights, to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law.
15. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the company's total liability to you, regardless of the cause of action (contract, tort, or otherwise), is limited to the amount you actually paid for purchased stories in the preceding 12 months. The company will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, punitive, or consequential damages, including loss of profit or data, arising from the use or inability to use the Service. Nothing in these Terms limits the company's liability in cases where applicable law doesn't permit such limitation (for example, death or personal injury caused by negligence or fraud).
16. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the company, its directors, employees, and partners from any claim, damage, loss, or expense (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from: (a) your use of the Service in violation of these Terms; (b) your violation of any law or any third party's rights.
17. Force majeure
The company is not responsible for delays or failures to perform caused by events beyond its reasonable control, including natural disasters, armed conflict, power outages, internet infrastructure disruptions, or actions of third-party providers (Stripe, Firebase, Google).
18. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms periodically to reflect legal, operational, or Service changes. We'll display the last-updated date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be communicated, when possible, through an in-platform notice or email. Continued use of the Service after changes are published constitutes acceptance of them.
19. Governing law and dispute resolution
These Terms are governed by Romanian law, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will first be subject to a good-faith attempt at amicable resolution; absent an amicable solution, the dispute will be resolved by the competent courts of Romania. If you're a consumer resident in the European Union, you may also use the EU Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) platform, available at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr, or contact the Romanian National Authority for Consumer Protection (ANPC).
20. Final provisions
If a provision of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable by a competent court, that provision will be interpreted to reflect its original intent as closely as possible, and the remaining Terms will continue in full effect. Our failure to enforce any right under these Terms doesn't constitute a waiver of that right. These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and the company regarding use of the Service and supersede any prior understandings, written or oral.
